Fall League 12.7.16

Trivia 12.7.16
Disney Princesses
1. First things first. Who was the first Disney princess to appear in a full-length animated feature film?
Snow White
White Walls - Macklemore (feat. Schoolboy Q)
2. One of my personal favorite Princess movies was Sleeping Beauty because the hero fought the dragon and that was cool to me as a kid. What is the princesses’ name in Sleeping Beauty?
Aurora
Running with the Wolves - Aurora
3. So a typical plot aspect of a Disney princess film is the lack of a motherly role or that of an estranged mother. However, one recent Disney flick, Brave, features Princess Merida and her escapades against the evil Mor’du who *spoilers* teams up with her mother to save the day. What is her mother’s name?
Elinor
Eleanor Rigby - Beatles
4. What is the most recent Disney Princess film? Here’s a hint – Lin Manuel Miranda - the dude responsible for Hamilton – wrote the soundtrack for the film.
Moana
Mo Money Mo Problem - Notorious BIG
Bonus: So in writing this round I read about the development of the Disney Princess – on the wiki of course – and found out that there’s actually something called the Disney Renaissance Era which lasted from 1989 to 2000 and featured 5 active, strong-willed, adventurous, feisty, cunning and determined princesses. Name me these 5.
1. Ariel - Kiss the Girl from Little Mermaid
2. Belle - Belle from BEauty and the Beast
3. Jasmine - A Whole New World from Aladdin
4. Pocahontas - Just Around the Riverbend from Pocahantas
5. Mulan - I’ll Make a Man Outta You from Mulan
Frozen
1. Guys it snowed, but like chill, let it go. Two part question: Name me the Disney Queen and her corresponding voice actor for this iconic hit.
Elsa/ Idina Menzel
Let it Go - Idina Menzel
2. So I’ve been watching a lot of Planet Earth lately, so naturally I’ve been learning a lot too. One really cool thing to watch is the migration of this antler’d animal across the arctic tundra – apparently it’s one of the largest migration of terrestrial animals.
Caribou/Reindeer
Caribou Lou - Tech N9ne
3. So Polar Bears and penguins can’t meet because the bears are confined to the arctic. Photographers have captured the hardship of these bears due to global warming and the lack of food in the region. This country features nearly 60% of the world’s polar bears who are confined to the Arctic Region. What country is that?
Canada
Canada - Rucka Rucka Ali
4. Frozen was inspired by the Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen who wrote Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid and the background story for the 2013 film, Frozen. What is the name of Andersen’s fairy tale that the movie is based off of?
The Snow Queen
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Bonus: Per a 2016 Accuweather article, name me the 5 snowiest cities in the world according to their average annual snowfall with a population of more than 100,000 people.
Simplified version: name me the 3 countries these cities are found in.
1. Aomori City, Tohoku, Japan (312”) - More than a Feeling by Boston

Pearl Harbor
1. 75 years ago today, the United States was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. These words were spoken as FDR addressed Congress asking for a declaration of War against Japan. On Dec. 11th Germany and Italy honored their alliance with Japan and declared war on the U.S. – what was the name of their alliance?
The Tripartite Pact
Try Everything - Shakria
2. Though I’ve never been – Pearl Harbor looks beautiful and as a history buff, seems an ideal place to visit. What island of Hawaii is Pearl Harbor located on?
Oahu
Oahu, Hawaii - Lemuria
3. Pearl Harbor was attacked on a Sunday morning just before 8 o’clock in the morning – which in my eyes is the worst time ever to do anything to anyone. What ship – the Rear Admiral Kidd’s flagship of Battleship Division One – was sunk and capsized and still to this day remains in the harbor as a memorial to the attack?
U.S.S. Arizona
Arizona - Hey Monday
4. In a heroic effort – one ship attempted to exit the harbor despite severe damage. Eventually the ship was suffering enough damage that it was purposely beached so as to prevent the harbor from being blocked by it sinking. What was the name of that ship?
U.S.S. Utah
Yeah Yeah Utah - Marietta
Bonus: Pearl Harbor was just the beginning of a very bloody and an oft forgotten Pacific theater of WWII. Name me 5 battles that occurred in the Pacific during WWII.

2. Iwo Jima - Sands of Iwo Jima by Drive-by-Truckers
3. Okinawa - Okinawa by Sure Sure

8. Philippine Sea
9. Wake Island - Wake me up when september Ends - Green Day

Mountaineering/Winter Hiking
Matt likes history, meh I like skiing. But, I did a round on skiing before so lets hike some mountains in the winter or go mountaineering!
When going for a big hike in the winter the worst part is snowshoeing up to the steeper parts. Snowshoes are so cumbersome and hard! Anyway what are those spiky things you put on your boots later on?

Crampons
Cramping my style by UGK

During my first winter mountain summit with my brother we practiced sliding down the side with aid of an ice axe. I want to know what this is called. BTW take your spikes off of your boots before or you’re gonna have a bad time.

Glissading

So we have a couple ice axes at home for when my brother and I go out. When you go ice climbing you use something similar, but it has a different name. I want to know the name of the “axe” used in ice climbing. Its called ice “something”

I always hated getting the camel back when hiking in the winter, but being the younger sibling I had no choice. Halfway up a hike the water pipe would freeze taking forever just to get it going again. Anyway that's not as cold as other places, I want to know the coldest recorded temperature at the top of mount washington.  (the hints within a few degrees and this is in F)

-47
50 ways to say goodbye

Name me the tallest 5 mountains in New England

Mount Washington Washington by your side Wiz Khalifa
Mount Adams The Adams Administration Hamilton
Mount Jefferson White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane
Mount Monroe Marilyn Monroe by Niki Minaji
Mount Madison Milky Way by Madison Mars

Picture Question: So Scott Pruitt just became the head of the EPA which basically means that government positions aren’t relevant. So the letter or e-mail or carrier pidgeon hasn’t come yet - but what positions are Alex and I going to be selected for? I hear Secretary of State is still up for grabs ;)

WINNER: THE FEW THE PROUD THE IRREGULARS
