Greetings everyone! My name is Celine and for those who don’t know I am obsessed with the sea and for the last few months I’ve been interning at the New England Aquarium. So, I hope you all brought your snorkel gear as we are about to travel below the sea surface.

Before I begin, I would like to encourage everyone to really pay attention to the next four questions because it will help you tremendously for the bonus round.

Question 1: The aquarium’s unofficial mascot is a 525lb Green Sea Turtle named Myrtle. Myrtle has been with the aquarium since its opening 1969 (lol) and is one of the most popular animals to see. Turtles and reptiles share a unique characteristic in that when the eggs are first laid the sex remains anonymous.

Question 3: One of my favorite tanks at the aquarium is the Sharks & Rays Touch Tank. However many visitors are hesitant to stick their hands in especially once the see the giant Leopard Tail Sting Ray. The point of the tank is to show visitors that not all species of sharks and rays are aggressive, but that still doesn’t stop them from asking about Steve Erwin.

Q: What was the specie of ray that killed Steve Erwin and what organ did the stinger puncture that led to his untimely death?

Question 4: When you first walk into the aquarium you become surrounded by the Penguin exhibit. There are three species of penguins at the aquarium including my spirit animal the Little Blue Penguins. Little blues are the smallest species of penguins, but also loudest, therefore I completely identify. Penguins spend most of their time in water to hunt, however once a year they go through a period called a catastrophic molt. This is when a penguin will shed all its feathers inorder to grown new ones. Penguins have about 80-100 feathers per square inch and during this molt period they are no longer water proof and cannot hunt.
